Bolton Manager Wants Offside Re-Think

Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce has urged FIFA to scrap the new offside rule which was brought into force at the end of last year which means players can stand in an offside position providing they do not touch the ball or block the vision or movement of an opponent.

Allardyce used the tactic during last night's 1-1 draw with Leicester who where furious that the Wanderers midfielder Kevin Nolan was standing in an offside position but not interfering with the opponent or ball, was allowed to detract the attention of goalkeeper Ian Walker which lead to the former England man fumbling Kevin Davies shot into his own net and the Bolton boss says he is not in favour of these new rules.

"I think they (FIFA) have got it horribly wrong. There is obviously nothing I can do about it apart from try use it to my advantage, I don't like it, I don't think it adds anything to the game whatsoever other than confusion. It's not the referees fault, it's FIFA's. Hopefully they may change it back."
