Bolton Wanderers U19 team kicked off their 2003-2004 programme with a fine 4-1 win over Chelsea at the clubs Euxton training ground. Portuguese striker Ricardo Vaz Te netted two of the goals with Ricky Shakes and Duong Thach also getting on the scoresheet.

Vaz Te, who is 16 years old, joined the Wanderers in the summer from Sporting Farense beating off competition from the likes of FC Porto and Benfica for the Portuguese U17 international who is described as tall and quick with a good touch on the ball.

Academy Recruitment Officer Geoff McDougle has said the teenager had been watched by scouts for quite some time last season and a hat trick in a trial game for the club did him no harm at all.

"We've been monitoring Ricardo for quite a while now. He's got a great reputation. We invited him over for a trial last season and he bagged a hat trick in that game" he told the clubs official site
