Former Bolton Wanderers reserve Aaron Downes has completed a move to Coca Cola League One side Chesterfield following a successful summer trial period.

The 19-year old Australian comes highly recommended by Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce having spent two months at the Reebok Stadium last season following his graduation from the highly successful Australian Institute Of Sport which has produced an erray of talent over the years.

Centre Half Downes ended the 2003-2004 season with Frickley Athletic in the Unibond League but has impressed Spireites boss Roy McFarland enough to be offered a three month deal at Saltergate.

"Bolton scouted me when I was playing for the Australian Institute of Sport and brought me over. I stayed at Bolton for two months and then began playing for Frickley Athletic, then Chesterfield asked me to come down here"

"I'm hoping to impress for the three months and then get a longer-term contract. I'm enjoying it here; it's a great club, and I want to stay longer". he said

Chesterfield will be hoping that Downes makes a similar impact to former Wanderers reserves Alan O'Hare and Derek Niven who have both become regular fixtures in the side.
