Bolton Wanderers started their new reserve team campaign with a defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in a thrilling 3-2 contest at Leyland with the home side very unlucky not to snatch a last minute leveller through Charlie Comyn-Platt.

The away side where three goals up at half time thanks to goals from Dean Sturridge, Lewis Gobern and Keith Andrews but Bolton made a comeback in the second period thanks to two goals from Frenchman Bedi Buval.

Wolves took the lead in the 11th minute when a neat return ball from Chris Cornes found it's way through to Sturridge with the former Derby County and Leicester City forward neating tucking the ball past Bolton keeper Chris Howarth.

Sturridge could have doubled his tally soonafter but some quick thinking defending from Bradley Hill in the home defence snuffed out any danger from the experienced attacker.

Bedi Buval had an impressive game for the Wanderers in white and was denied a clear route on goal by Keith Lowe shortly before the break but this early disappointment was not to faze the striker.

On 22 minutes the away side went further ahead thanks to Gobern. A corner from Northern Ireland U21 international Sammy Clingan was nodded down by Sturridge and midfielder Golbern lashed home the loose ball despite brave attempts by Howarth to keep the ball out.

Eight minutes later there looked to be no way back for Bolton as Keith Andrews added a third on the rebound after Chris Cornes initial shot had been saved.

However the second period proved to be one of fight and resurrection for Neil McDonald's youthful Bolton team and within the first minute of the re-start they pulled a goal back through Buval.

The Frenchman was fouled by Wolves defender Conor Raferty and was able to get up and despatch the resulting penalty to reduce the defacit to two goals making the scoreline 3-1.

His second and Bolton's second came five minutes later with a fine individual goal running through the Wolves defence before calmly slotting the ball past Wolves keeper Matt Murray.

Duong Thach and Dale Whitehead both had half chances to bring the side back in the game but the main perhaps most crucial chance came in injury time when Charlie Comyn Platt saw his shot headed off the line by Gobern to complete a frustrating night for the young Trotters who had felt they had done enough to earn a point.
