An inexperienced Bolton Wanderers reserve team where beaten 2-1 by Birmingham City at the home of Solihull Borough in a game which will have no doubt given the young Bolton lads much confidence after a spirited performance against a Birmingham side who claimed their first win in three FA Premier Reserve league matches.

Due to the majority of the first team squad being in the Spanish resort of La Manga on a training excersise it was left to U19's Academy coach Jimmy Phillips to pick the reserves side and he included many players who where to make their debuts at this level.

South American striker Luciano Figuero had given Brum the lead after a quarter of an hour when he planted the ball past debutant goalkeeper Sam Ashton in the Bolton goal whilst former Manchester United youngster and American international Jovan Kirovski had increased the home sides lead with 20 minutes remaining.

The young Wanderers gave a spirited and hard working performance and will no doubt have learned from the few experienced names of whom they where playing against in the opposition such as Ian Bennett, Bryan Hughes, Jeff Kenna, Martin Grainger and Kirovski.

Their hard work was rewarded five minutes from time when they pulled a goal back with Stockport-born midfielder Reece Jones reducing the defacit for the young Wanderers.
