Henrik Pedersen netted his fourth goal in five games to give Bolton Wanderers a convincing 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the Reebok Stadium in what was a very hard working display from the Trotters.

Danish striker Pedersen has been in fine goalscoring form over the Easter period and his 65th minute winner moved Wanderers up to the 44 points mark which equals their best ever Premiership points haul.

Bolton threatened as early as the first minute when a high ball into the box was volleyed across the goal by Pedersen, luckily for Spurs goalkeeper Kasey Keller the shot from the Dane was to bounce the wrong side of the post and out for a goal kick.

The home side seemed to take full control of the game from the first whistle, the passing was fluent and the team worked hard for each other, Spurs gave a gritty display themselves as the midfield of Michael Brown, Gus Poyet, Jamie Redknapp and Simon Davies found themselves in the thick of the action however they could not create many chances for the forward pairing of Jermain Defoe and Freddie Kanoute.

Former Real Madrid ace Ivan Campo gave Bolton the lead in the sixth minute to register his fourth goal of the season. Jay-Jay Okocha picked the ball up on the right hand side of midfield for Bolton before finding the Spaniard in space on the edge of the area and the midfielder was able to fire the ball into the bottom left hand corner with Spurs keeper Keller beaten all ends up.

Three minutes later the American goalkeeper made a wonderful save to deny Bolton midfielder Kevin Nolan from extending the lead. The ball was bouncing around awkwardly in the area amongst a number of white and sky blue shirts and Nolan's deftest of touches was tipped over by Keller who only saw the ball at the last minute.

On 23 minutes Welsh international midfielder Simon Davies had a glorious chance to bring Spurs back on level terms. He beat his man Simon Charlton to the ball and cut inside before unleashing a shot which was just inches over Jussi Jaaskelainen's crossbar - in all fairness the Finnish goalkeeper had little to do on his 200th league appearance for Bolton.

The first half petered out as the game turned into a possessional spectactle but the midfield battles between the two sides where proving to be the focal point to end the first half with former Chelsea midfielder Poyet in particular getting stuck in, perhaps a little too overeager at times and this was noted down by referee Jeff Winter.

With that in mind Spurs caretaker manager David Pleat was to withdraw Poyet during the interval in a tactical change which saw fellow South American Mauricio Taricco enter the fray for the second half. England international Ledley King used his versitility to move into midfield and Taricco was to occupy his usual left back role.

Jay-Jay Okocha still without a Premiership goal this term had Bolton's opening chance of the half when he accepted a wonderful crossfield ball by fellow midfielder Kevin Nolan however after the good piece of play the Nigerian could not keep his shot down and the ball was to sail high over Keller's crossbar.

On 51 minutes Spurs midfielder Michael Brown fired a shot towards the Bolton goal but the former Sheffield United and Manchester City man was unable to put enough power behind his effort to test Jussi Jaaskelainen. At the other end Keller proved to be the hero once again for Spurs as he tipped away a fine free kick from Okocha.

Kevin Davies then wasted a golden opportunity to score his third goal in as many games when he fired wide for Bolton having found himself in space around a crowded penalty area however the miss by the striker was to matter little as fellow forward Henrik Pedersen was to increase Bolton's lead in the 65 minute.

French midfielder Youri Djorkaeff picked the ball up in midfield for Wanderers and his neat pass was intercepted by Spurs defender Anthony Gardner, however the recently capped England international was to lose possession and that coupled with some persistance by Pedersen was to allow the Dane to fire in Bolton's second of the game.

With ten minutes to go Jaaskelainen was quick to deny Jermain Defoe as Spurs looked for a goal to bring themselves back into the contest. The nimble striker had been quiet for most of the afternoon but had beaten the Bolton defence offside trap, however the Finn stood firm and was able to deny the former West Ham striker.

The final moments of the game saw Bolton substitute Stelios Giannakopoulos booked for a foul on Taricco however the home support where furious with the actions of the Spurs defender who made a meal of the foul by Giannakopoulos, luckily for the Greek referee Winter was to see the whole incident and the Bolton midfielder was just to be booked.

Bolton are now in twelvth position on 44 points and take three points off a team very close to them in the Premiership table, survival now is all but assured barring the mathematics and Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce has already talked about his plans for next season. With various sides such as Manchester City and Leeds United in the relegation dogfight failing to pick up points, a fourth season in the Premiership seems more and more likely for the Trotters who performed very well against Spurs.
