Bolton Wanderers 2 Everton 0

Bolton Wanderers served up what was probably the best performance of their season so far as they brushed aside a very out of sorts Everton side still looking for their first win on their travels in a game which has now seen the Wanderers move into the top half of the table.

Goals in each half from Per Frandsen and Kevin Nolan where the perfect reward for some very neat play during the game in which the likes of Jay-Jay Okocha, Simon Charlton, Kevin Nolan and Ricardo Gardner where superb, in fact this was probably the best team performance seen at the Reebok Stadium in quite some time.

The Trotters had the control from the first whistle and a neat through ball from Kevin Nolan on eight minutes found Stelios Giannakopoulos, but despite the Greek international beating Toffees keeper Nigel Martyn he found that his shot bounced the wrong side of the post.

Kevin Davies, fresh from his goal at Leeds United last weekend, had a couple of headed opportunities to increase the Bolton lead but he couldn't keep his headers on target.

On 25 minutes the home side took the lead, some intense Wanderers pressure in the area lead to Per Frandsen netting his first goal of the season after the Everton keeper Martyn punched Ivan Campo's header straight to the former Danish international to score.

Bolton then lost Giannakopoulos in what looked to be a slight back strain and he was replaced by Youri Djorkaeff, and the Frenchman, playing his first game for six weeks was absolutely outstanding for Sam Allardyce's team.

On the half hour mark Frandsen again tested Martyn but the former England goalkeeper tipped the Danes effort away for a corner kick but it was clear to see that Wanderers had the edge over their Merseyside neighbours in this contest and even the prescence of England striker Wayne Rooney could not help David Moyes team as they seemed very lacklustre, which isn't the same as the Toffees teams of the previous season.

Shortly after half time Wanderers increased their lead when boyhood Liverpool supporter Kevin Nolan directed an acrobatic shot by the substitute Djorkaeff past Everton keeper Martyn for his fifth goal of the season and his second goal of the month.

The away side brought on James McFadden and Francis Jeffers for Tobias Linderoth and Wayne Rooney in a bid to get back into the game but the nearest they got was when former Wanderers captain Alan Stubbs shot narrowly wide of Jussi Jaaskelainen's goal within the last quarter of an hour.

Djorkaeff and Frandsen had further chances to claim a third goal but in the end they didnt need to as a fine performance from the Bolton players condemned Everton to further misery on their travels this season which has culminated in them dropping into the relegation zone.
