Bolton Wanderers began their pre-season programme with a fine 2-0 win against Scottish side Dundee United at the County Ground in Leyland last night thanks to goals from Kevin Nolan and Kevin Davies.

The Wanderers included a number of youngsters for the game against the Tangerines with the likes of Ricardo Vaz-Te, Ricky Shakes, Charlie Comyn-Platt and Joey O'Brien all being involved and looking likely to play some part in the first team squad next term.

On 35 minutes Nolan gave Bolton the lead from close range and this advantage was doubled in the second half when Davies struck on 72 minutes with a fine shot in the bottom corner.

United keeper Tony Bullock saved well on a number of occasions notably to deny Danish international Henrik Pedersen and trialists Jordi Cruyff and Emerson.
