Bolton Wanderers Reserves 3-2 Sunderland Reserves

Nineteen year old striker Ricardo Vaz Te scored twice as Bolton reserves lifted themselves off the bottom of the league at Leyland last night.

Sunderland's line up consisted of eight members of the current under-18 side with only Martin Woods, Dan Smith and Daryl Murphy having first-team experience.

They opened brightly and took the lead after only eight minutes through midfielder Jake Richardson, who hit a low drive into the bottom corner from 20 yards.

But Wanderers levelled in the 25th minute through Rhys Powell after Sunderland keeper Trevor Carson had parried a Bedi Buval header into the path of the young Welshman.

It was still level at the break but on 65 minutes, Bolton took the lead. Carson came rushing out to a long ball down the middle and headed clear outside the box but the ball fell to Ricardo Vaz Te who slotted home.

Vaz Te then made it 3-1 when he slotted home a Scott Jamieson cross and Sunderland were dead and buried. Martin Woods scored in the dying minutes of the match to pull one back for Sunderland but Bolton held on to take a thoroughly deserved three points.
