Bolton Reserves suffered a 4-0 defeat on Monday evening against an Aston Villa side that were deadly in front of goal and fully deserved the win.

Bolton's first chance came on 9 minutes when Ricardo Vaz Te nearly opened the scoring with the first shot of the game, but managed to miss the target.

Villa capitalised on this and were awarded a penalty a minute later when Shane Paul was bought down in the box. Paul confidently despatched the penalty to put the visitors 1-0 up.

Bedi Buval nearly got an equaliser minutes later when his powerful effort was superbly saved by former Arsenal keeper Stuart Taylor.

Stuart Bridges and Shane Paul had further chances to extend the lead, but were denied by Ian Walker in the Bolton goal.

It was Villa who opened the scoring in the second half when Shane Paul scored from an acute angle in the 54th minute.

Villa took control of the game and shots from Bakke, Williams, Cahill and Ward showed their desire to add a third.

Villa's constant pressure finally paid off twelve minutes from time when Cahill scored a header off one of many Villa corners of the period.

Polish centre back Jaroslaw Fojut nearly got a consolation towards the end of the match when his free kick came back off the Villa bar.

Paul turned provider three minutes later when his good work with Gardner left stand-in strike partner Sam Williams with just a tap-in to complete the scoring.
