'We Had Quantity But Not Quality Last Year' - Megson

Megson said, "A lack of playing resources are nothing new to this football club."

"We have never had a huge squad, aside from last year which was probably the biggest we have ever had.

"Of those, we didn't have the quality. We had the quantity but of the 20-or-so players who have left in my time here, only one - Nicolas Anelka - has been playing regularly in the Premier League.

"They were all viewed as being good enough here but, without being rude, they aren't good enough to play elsewhere.

"The whole thing can be seen as a work in progress. It is healthier, simply because it is not bottom of the league.

"We have spent, when you take the shortfall between wages and transfer fees, £1.5million in total.

"The football club is much leaner and tighter-run and there is a lot more consequence for those who are working off-the-field now.

"We have now got ourselves into the position where we are happy with the training ground, happy with the staff. But we now need to be happier with the size of the squad.

"We should be able to look at that closer this month and hopefully bring a couple of players in."
