Bolton Wanderers youngster Rhys Powell and his brother Liam Powell of Leicester City became the first pair of brothers to turn out for Wales in 35 years when they played in their country's European Championship U19 defeat against Portugal in Belarus which the Dragons lost 2-1.

The 16-year old right back Rhys signed for the club from Leicester City in the summer and is a full Welsh U21 international and his father Mark told the Bolton Evening News that the coaching staff have already been alerted to his progress.

"Phil Brown and Neil McDonald have given him some very positive comments" said the players father who played professional rugby for Wales.

He also outlined his son's ambitions for the future even suggesting that the defender could be knocking on the first team door sometime very soon

"Rhys could not be happier at Bolton. It could have been a wrench for a 16-year old to leave home but he's been staying with a fantastic family in Westhoughton and the whole set up is terrific" said Cardiff-based Mark.

"His comment when he signed for Bolton was that he would be in the first team within two years so we hope that happens, but we will always make sure his feet are on the ground" he added
