Mr Higson lived in the Morris Green area of the town and followed the fortunes of his hometown club both home and away for many, many years including the present season.
He is best known for his work as a commentator on Roadrunner video when covering the Wanderers games between 1988 and 1995. In the late 1990's he made an appearance on BBC's Fantasy Football League alongside David Baddiel and Frank Skinner.
