Jonathan Walters has been called up by Republic of Ireland U21 manager Don Givens for the forthcoming away friendly against Poland on the 19th August at The Gdynski Osrodek Sportu I Rekeachji Stadium.

The Birkenhead born striker qualifies for Ireland through the parentage rule and made the choice over the summer to represent the Irish ahead of his native England and he will get an early chance to impress for the Emerald Isle against the Poles having been named in the 18 man squad.

Walters, a former Blackburn Rovers Academy player has previously been training with the U20 team having caught the eye of the coaching staff during his time on loan with Hull City last season and is hoping his chances at U21 level will give him more chances in the first team at the Reebok Stadium.
