Viander on trial with Palace

Former Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Jani Viander has returned to English football to join up with Nationwide First Division outfit Crystal Palace on a trial period as Eagles boss Steve Kember searches for goalkeeping cover.

The 28-year old Finnish international Viander spent three months on loan with the Wanderers from HJK Helsinki in the 2001-2002 season making only one appearance in the FA Cup win over Stockport County before moving to Stoke City for £300,000 once his loan period at the Reebok Stadium was due to expire.

However he failed to make the first team grade at the Britannia Stadium and last season returned to Scandanavia where he played alongside ex-Wanderer Bo Hansen at FC Midtylland in Denmark.

Palace see the 6ft 3" stopper as possible cover for another ex-Wanderers player Matt Clarke who once again has struggled with injuries at the start of the season.
