Bolton Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside has rubbished reports of a rift with manager Sam Allardyce.

Gartside said: "I've been in Australia and Sam's been in Europe, but the two of us are constantly in touch.

"To suggest that we have a problem is laughable.

"He's been getting on with the job of strengthening the squad, checking out potential signings and speaking to players.

"There has been very little business done anywhere in the last few weeks because of the World Cup.

"Nevertheless, a lot of work is going on behind the scenes.

"Money is available and we're making a lot of offers but, like we've always said, the club won't be held to ransom by anybody."

In other news, following the Dietmar Hamann saga, Bolton will reportedly earn a cool windfall of £300,000.

It is understood that Bolton will still have to negotiate a token fee with Liverpool for Hamann, who had one year left on his Anfield contract.

The deal, unique in Premiership history, does however represent a good deal for both Manchester City and Bolton. Wanderers will get up to £300,000 for a player who never laced his boots for the club and City have got a proven international for a bargain fee.

Bolton boss Sam Allardyce is also set to revive his interest in Marseille defender Abdoulaye Meite.

The Times says Allardyce is ready to try again for Meite after the centre-half saw a move to Stuttgart fall through this week.

Meanwhile, Olympique Lyon have made public their asking price for striker Sidney Govou, which could price Wanderers out of a move for the pacy forward.

The France international is also wanted by Fulham and Middlesbrough and Lyon yesterday announced: "The value of the attacker Sidney Govou is £7 million.

"This is based on his qualities, his experience and the market rate."
