Bolton Wanderers have been drawn against neighbours Preston North End in the newly re-formed Lancashire Cup competition which is being held for the first time in nearly six seasons.

The first round tie on Monday 18th August at the County Ground in Leyland will be the first time that the two clubs have faced each other in competitive action since the 2001 Play Off Final in Cardiff and is sure to be a hard fought competition given the local rivalry at stake.

Other clubs who have agreed to enter the competition include Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool, Burnley, Bury, Oldham Athletic and Rochdale with Manchester United also promising to field a team in the competition.

The other ties in round one are as follows

BLACKPOOL VERSUS BLACKBURN ROVERS
OLDHAM ATHLETIC VERSUS BURY
BURNLEY VERSUS ROCHDALE

The last time Bolton entered the competition was in the summer of 1993 winning the opening two fixtures in the away games at Rochdale and Burnley but losing 3-1 at home to Blackpool with John McGinlay managing to grab a consolation for the Wanderers.

Wanderers have won the cup 11 times, the last success coming in 1990 when they beat Preston 2-1 in the final.
