Tofting gets four months

Last updated : 15 October 2002 By BoltonMAD
Tofting was found guilty of assault after appearing at the City Court in Copenhagen over an alleged attack on a cafe owner in the Danish capital while on a night out with fellow members of the international squad in July.

However, he has not yet been sent to the cells and has the right to appeal the courts decision.

His agent, Carsten Aabrink, told Sky Sports News: "I think it was a very tough decision to make."

Aabrink said Tofting had made a full apology to his victim, and revealed he would be back at Bolton for training on Wednesday.

Under Danish law, Tofting does not go immediately to jail and Aabrink said his client would probably be unaffected by the decision in the short term should he appeal.

"As long as his family support him, and we support him and Bolton support him we will get through this," said Aabrink.

"You have another chance to take it to the next court. I don't think it will have any influence on his season at Bolton. He's surprised that the punishment was so tough. He's taken it like a man."
