New signing Emerson Thome has backed his fellow countryman Mario Jardel to get the goals for Bolton Wanderers, but admits that his fellow Brazilian will have to adjust to the different pace of football that the Premiership will bring.

Thome, who made his debut against Charlton Athletic on Saturday following a recent move from Sunderland says the former Sporting Lisbon player has a fantastic scoring record but will need to have to add battling qualities to his game.

"I expect a lot of him. He has been a top man in Portugal and even in Turkey. He is a fantastic goalscorer and he has got a great record." said Thome

"I've explained to him how difficult it is going to be in the Premiership. He is used to playing for big sides who are looking to win everything whereas here it's about scratching and scrambling and doing everything you can to get the points."

"I'll have a good chat with him to make sure that, when he gets his fitness back, he understands how quick and powerful the game is in England.

The former Sheffield Wednesday man admits he cant wait to team up with Jardel upon his return to full fitness and has backed the former Porto man to score the goals

"But he is a good player. He is ferocious in the box and has a goalscorers' instinct, which is why I am looking forward to him being in the team.''
