Former Bolton Wanderers favourite Gerry Taggart has ended his five and a half year spell with Premiership rivals Leicester City and signed a contract with Stoke City until the end of the current season.

The 33-year old Northern Ireland international had spent some time on loan at the Britannia Stadium during the Christmas and New Year period only to be recalled by Foxes manager Micky Adams due to an injury crisis at the Walkers Stadium.

Former Manchester City man Taggart, a former record signing from Barnsley in the summer of 1995 was an integral part of the Bolton side and formed a useful partnership with Chris Fairclough at the heart of the Wanderers defence during his stay with the Trotters. In 1997 he helped the club win the Division One championship before joining the Foxes following Bolton's relegation from the Premiership in 1998. Whilst at Leicester he played in Europe under the Martin O'Neill regime but a succession of injuries have hampered his progress in recent seasons.
