Strikers To Blame

Bolton boss Sam Allardyce criticised his teams finishing in their 2-1 defeat to Wigan on Sunday.

Allardyce refused to blame his side's European exertions for the JJB Stadium setback.

"There was maybe some fatigue in the back four because Tal Ben Haim, Bruno N'Gotty and Henrik Pedersen have had to play nearly every game up until now because of our injury situation in defence," said Allardyce.

"Maybe that played a part, but whether they were slightly fatigued or not, with the experience we have we should have dealt with what Wigan were throwing at us now and again.

"The back four would normally have dealt with it better, but sadly in this game they didn't and that's disappointed me because we've had a defensive unit that has been very solid, very well drilled and difficult to break down this season.

"But I have to point a finger up front. We were miserable in front of goal because we created enough chances, especially going into the last 15 to 20 minutes, to have got back to 2-2.

"They were gaping, goalscoring opportunities, and how poorly we missed them was the biggest disappointment for me.

"I can't remember that many chances in a recent game, yet I'd sooner be boring and win than entertaining and lose.

"It means we've lost our unbeaten away record and conceded two goals for the first time since the opening day against Aston Villa."
