Newcastle United midfielder Gary Speed has completed his £750,000 move to Bolton Wanderers on a two-year contract.

The 34-year old Welsh international becomes the Trotters fourth signing of the summer following Michael Bridges, Les Ferdinand and Radhi Jaidi to the Reebok Stadium.

Speed has played over 500 games in league football for Leeds United, Everton and the Magpies and is sure to become an excellent capture by the club as they embark on their fourth successive season in the Premiership.

Bolton manager Sam Allardyce is confident that the Deeside born player will add some much needed steel to the Wanderers midfield over the coming season and is happy that the veteran has chosen to move back to the North West with a number of clubs supposedly interested besides the Trotters.

"I am delighted to sign a player of Gary's quality, he is a very experienced Premiership player and will add much needed depth to our squad"

"Gary was eager to join us and turned down offers from other clubs to become a Bolton player. He has great enthusiasm for the game and will add a bit of steel to our midfield." Allardyce said
