Spanish club Deportivo Alaves are reportedly on the verge of bringing former Bolton Wanderers striker Mario Jardel back to Europe after the Brazilian ended his stay in Argentina with Newells Old Boys.

The 31-year old left Bolton in May of last year following a disappointing spell at the Reebok Stadium, but his agent Luis Augusto claims that Alaves have made contact with him about trying to aquire the once prolific forward.

"The officials of Alaves have got in touch with me because they know that Jardel is free of contract because he has left Newell's Old Boys, As they want to have a more powerful team that has a chance of reaching the Primera Liga, they want to know if they will be able to sign Jardel." he said

Jardel scored 300 goals in 300 games for FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon but was unable to recreate such form when at Bolton. In total, the one time Golden Boot winner appeared in just seven league matches for the Trotters, all as a substitute.
