Sam Reveals Mutu Interest

Bolton manager Sam Allardyce has admitted he would be interested in securing the services of former Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu once the Romanian has served a drugs ban.

Mutu was handed a seven month ban last week after admitting using cocaine but Allardyce says that the 25-year old striker needs the correct help once he resumes his football career next season.

"Mutu needs help. Once he's served his punishment someone has to give him the help he needs. Yes he is a player who would interest me because I'm always looking to sign quality players when I can - and Mutu is world-class." he said

The Wanderers boss felt that Chelsea may have stuck by the striker whom they paid over £15 million for a year ago. Arsenal legends Paul Merson and Tony Adams suffered similar problems with drink and drugs in the past but went on to rebuild their careers at Highbury - something which Big Sam felt Mutu could have done at Stamford Bridge.

"I thought Chelsea might stick by him like Arsenal did when Tony Adams and Paul Merson had their problems. Both of them bounced back and went on to contribute to Arsenal's success."

Allardyce feels that Mutu may go to another country to escape all the media hype once his ban is over, but is keeping a close eye on things with the former Parma man.

"He may decide to play in another country after this experience. I would not be surprised but he certainly interests me."
