Sam fails in attempts to land Brazilian duo

Various newspaper speculation this morning has suggested that the Bolton manager Sam Allardyce had made unsuccesful bids for Brazilian World Cup winning duo Edmilson and Roque Junior.

The 27-year old Lyon defender Edmilson, a former team mate of current Wanderer Florent Laville had recently been linked with a loan move with Leeds United as well as reported interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Arsenal in the past.

However it seems the permanent asking price would be well out of Wanderers range but a loan deal was possible for a player who is no longer required by the French Champions.

It seems as though the ambitious bid failed as the player has set his sights higher and would want to play for a club in Europe and a club who has a realistic chance of challenging for honours.

Fellow defender Roque Junior was also told he could leave on loan by AC Milan after the 26-year old made only half a dozen appearances in Serie A last season, again the Wanderers seem to have lost out due to their non involvement in a European competition. He was offered to Barcelona as Milan attempted to sign Carlos Puyol.

Either way it seems the search goes on for Sam Allardyce in his attempt to recruit new faces, the targets he had been looking at such as Martin Laursen, Dennis Bergkamp, Roque Junior and Edmilson shows he is ambitious but the fact the club can't offer European Football is a big disadvantage in bringing new players to the club to add to the already cosmopolitan side.

Meanwhile Kevin Davies last night completed the formalities of his Free Transfer move to the Reebok Stadium after the former Southampton striker passed a medical shortly before the friendly with Royal Antwerp.
