Sam Disappointed Over Toon Defeat

Bolton manager Sam Allardyce has told the club's official website that his team let themselves down in the second half of Sunday's 2-1 defeat at Newcastle United.

A goal in each half from Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer gave the Magpies the points and put an end to an unbeaten Bolton run which had stretched back to the end of December.

Stelios Giannakopoulos scored what turned out to be an exceptional consolation for Bolton but Allardyce says that his team switched off in the second period and ultimately paid the price

"From my point of view it has come to a particularly disappointing end. There are a lot of very dejected players, as well as myself, because our performance in the second half - when we've taken the game by the scruff of the neck, recovered exceptionally well from Nicky Hunt's injury and taken our goal very well after Lee Bowyer had put them in front - we forgot to do the basics like close the opposition down and allow them not to play.

"Quite simply we never stopped the opposition from playing in the second-half and hence, in the end, everybody could see that they would have the chance to score the goal which they did."
