Bolton boss Sam Allardyce is confident Stelios Giannakopoulos will sign a new deal at the club. The Trotters are keen to keep the midfielder and have offered him a new deal to extend his stay at the Reebok Stadium.

After his most successful season in a Bolton shirt, Liverpool showed an interest in the Euro 2004 winner and reports suggested he was on his way out of the club. But Allardyce is determined to keep Stelios and is confident he will sign a contract and put to an end any speculation of his departure.

"I am very optimistic that he will stay," said Allardyce.

"I know there has been some speculation that Liverpool want him and that would interest anybody but I am hopeful he will sign a new deal.

"He hasn't said anything yet but I think we will get it signed off when Stelios comes back from holiday."
