Sam Blocks Youngster Loan

Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce has put the block on young striker Ricardo Vaz-Te leaving the club in a loan deal following recent interest from League Two side Notts County.

Ian Richardson, the temporary manager of the Magpies. wanted to take the Portuguese youngster on loan to boost their fortunes but Allardyce says that it is a non-starter due to the recent injury problems of Les Ferdinand and the unavailability of both El-Hadji Diouf and Khalilou Fadiga.

"Ricardo got into the squad because Les wasn't fit. But he's got himself included irrespective of that because he keeps scoring for the reserves" Allardyce said

The Bolton boss also felt that it would help the youngster make the step up to Premiership level if he was more involved with the first team squad of players at the Reebok Stadium.

"The problem with an 18-year old is that it is a massive task taking the step up from the reserves to the Premiership. It's about keeping him involved but he's in the squad because he deserves to be in it through his performances and the goals that he has scored".

"If we can give him the odd appearance off the bench here and there and give him a bit more experience, he may even break in this year. It would be great for him and the club if that happened"

Allardyce says he wouldn't allow a loan unless he is approached by a club in the Coca Cola Championship.

"He's not going out on loan because he is too involved here, particularly with Khalilou Fadiga, and now El-Hadji Diouf being out of the picture at the moment. If we had to consider a loan for him then I wouldn't consider anything less than the first division"
