Ferdinand was released by the Trotters earlier this week by mutual agreement and is now hopeful of earning a deal with a club nearer to his London home.
Royals manager Steve Coppell is rumoured to have contacted the 38-year old and is hopeful of striking a deal. Southampton and Queens Park Rangers are also interested in taking on the former England international who made 12 appearances for Wanderers.
