Riley Unpopularity Crosses Europe

Seems like it isn't just our very own Sam Allardyce who is unhappy with referee Mike Riley at the moment as Bordeaux coach Michel Pavon blasted the Yorkshire official for his performance during the French club's UEFA Cup defeat against Valencia in midweek.

Bolton manager Allardyce has been punished by the English Football Association for his comments towards the official following the Trotters Carling Cup Final defeat to Middlesbrough in February and it seems Riley is just as unpopular in France at the moment.

Riley sent off Bordeaux midfielder Rio Mavuba which allowed Valencia to come back from a goal down to win the game 2-1 thanks to goals from Ruben Baraja and Francisco Rufete resulting in Pavon blasting the English official for his handling of the game.

"Usually, I don't like to talk about the refereeing, but this time I have to say it was very biased. It is just like that, sometime the adversary is also the referee. He was bad. It can happen to anyone, but when it is against you, it hurts. We mastered the midfield and when we lost a player, we lost that mastery. I would like to see again the pictures of Rio Mavuba's sending off. I have nothing to reproach my players for, they fought until the end. Valencia had two chances, and they scored two goals."
