Rebrov swoop fails

Bolton Wanderers will not be signing the former Tottenham Hotspur striker Sergei Rebrov after the Fenerbache star was refused a work permit to return to England.

The Ukranian international had agreed a deal with the Bolton manager Sam Allardyce before today's transfer deadline but the loan swoop for the former £11 million front man fell through at the last minute.

Rebrov first came to England in the summer of 2000 when Spurs paid a club record £11 million fee for the prolific forward to Dynamo Kiev, but his time at White Hart Lane didnt go as planned so he was loaned out to the Turkish club Fenerbache last year who are now keen to get him off their wage bill and Allardyce wanted to give the 29-year old a fresh start in England.

"I'm really disappointed to miss out on Sergei. Unfortunately we have been thwarted on his work permit application. This would have been a fantastic signing for the club but it wasn't meant to be so we have to move on" said the dejected Bolton manager.
