Queens Park Rangers manager Ian Holloway has identified former Hoops striker Les Ferdinand as the man to help them get back into the Premiership.

Holloway tried to sign the veteran striker in the summer before losing out to Bolton but is now set to test the water with regards to a possible loan deal for the 37-year old striker who has so far found opportunities in the starting eleven limited due to the form of fellow strikers Kevin Davies and Henrik Pedersen.

Ferdinand was on target for Bolton during last night's Carling Cup defeat to Spurs and it remains to be seen whether Sam Allardyce will allow the deal to happen as he has already loaned out summer recruit Michael Bridges to Sunderland in recent weeks.

Rangers though are keen to see what the situation is with Ferdinand, who scored goals for fun with in a previous spell with the London club between 1987 and 1995 before a big move took him to Newcastle United.

"Les might not see his future outside the Premiership but he might also like to help his old club get back in it. I hope I will be able to convince him of that. And I don't want to wait until the January transfer window to keep our momentum going." Holloway said
