A deal looked close when it was revealed that Petrov, who was recently released by Manchester City, was having a medical. Today the club have confirmed that he's agreed a deal and will sign on 1st July.

The Bulgarian brings a wealth of experience to the Reebok. Besides having played no fewer than 77 times for his country since making an international debut in 1999, he's played in some of Europe's top leagues.

He began his career in his home country with Botev Vratsa before signing for CSKA Sofia. Then it was off to Switzerland with Servette before a move to German Bundesliga club Wolfsburgin 2001.

Four years there were followed by two in La Liga with Atletico Madrid before he arrived in England with Manchester City in the summer of 2007 after signing for Sven Goran Eriksson.

He cost City £4.7 million but having not figured in Mancini's plans he was released and Owen Coyle was one of a number of managers chasing him. Coyle has won the day and the left sided player with the powerful left foot shot will become a Bolton player next week.
