Oldham Athletic have failed in an attempt to sign Bolton Wanderers midfielder Jermaine Johnson on a permanent basis after Trotters boss Sam Allardyce blocked the move.

Johnson had been on loan at Boundary Park earlier on in the season and New Latics manager Brian Talbot had wanted to take over the players contract but was thwarted in his attempts as Allardyce wanted to retain the player in case of injury and suspension.

Talbot is expected to renew his interest in Johnson in the summer once the player is out of contract but that has not stopped him from adding to his squad as goalkeeper Steve Corrie, striker Dean Crowe and midfielder Mark Bonner have all joined the Latics squad for the end of season run in.
