O'Brien told Setanta Sports, "You just want to get near the first team, and when you start to get near, and start training with them, then it becomes all worthwhile, and the rewards are obviously great.

"This season has been great for me. Playing first, then playing in the Premiership, then playing in Europe.

"It has been a lot different to what I have been used to, playing in the reserves, but having a lot of top players around you, and a top coach helps.

"Sam is a brilliant coach. I think it is a good sign for the club that he has been linked (with the England job).

"The job is the best available in England, (him being linked) means that everyone at the club is doing well. Sam is a top man, so he will be offered the top jobs."

O'Brien has had a taste of Europe in club football this season and admits he wants to experience European football again in the next campaign.

"We've got ten games to go until the end of the season, and if we get a run together then a Champions League spot is definitely there for us. We all enjoyed Europe this year, and want it again," he said.
