"It is nice to understand someone for a change," he joked.
"Sammy is full of new ideas and is always asking questions. The lads really seem to have taken to him."
Bolton are in Europe for the first time and Nolan, who signed a long-term contract last season, cannot wait to get going.
He said: "It will be a busy schedule but I am not going to moan about it.
"This is where we want to be, playing European football. I hope there are lots of UEFA Cup games and we are in a position to win trophies."
