Mexican Rejected Italian Side

Jared Borgetti has revealed that he rejected a move to Italy in order to join Bolton and insisted he wants to open the door for other Mexican players wanting to move into Europe.

The 31-year-old Mexican striker has confirmed that before concurring on a deal with The Premiership outfit he was approached by an Italian side but was disgraced by the offer made. Borgetti believes that the contract he was offered was ridiculous considering his standing as an established international forward and thinks Mexican players deserve more respect in the game by being offered better contracts.

"I am very glad that I accepted the offer from England because before that I had received one from an Italian football club that really offended me and Mexican football,'' said Borgetti.

''They had offered me $100,000 for the next season.

"There are some European countries that still think that Mexican players are slaves and offer amounts of money that are ridiculous.

"I had also been in touch with officials of Hertha Berlin but I got decided on playing at Bolton because I think it's a more interesting league and in addition to that it's a better place for taking my family with me.

"I am very excited for this chance of playing in England and I am going to take advantage of it and I hope that this can open the doors of English football to more Mexican players.''
