Bolton Wanderers are being linked with a summer move for Olympique Marseille defender Abdoulaye Meite who will be out of contract in the summer if he fails to agree a new deal with the UEFA Cup Quarter Finalists.

Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce made a personal check on Meite during Sunday's La Championate clash with Rennes and is said to be returning to France on Thursday to watch Marseille's UEFA Cup clash with Liverpool to make further checks on the player.

The 23-year old Ivory Coast international joined L'OM in the summer of 2000 from Red Star Paris and has made over 50 appearances at Le Stade Velodrome where he is competing with former Wanderers targets Phillipe Christanval and Johnny Ecker for the defensive places.

Another target, Auxerre's Olivier Kapo appears to be out of Wanderers reach after it was confirmed that the French international winger has other attractive options, one of which is Italian giants Juventus. Commenting on Kapo the Bolton boss said "I think we may be out of that race at the moment". However it hasn't detered the Trotters supremo from making regular trips to the continent and Meite is just the latest in a number of names touted as Allardyce starts to plan his rebuilding for next season.
