Julio's Spanish Aim

Recent Bolton Wanderers signing Julio Cesar has set his sights on winning international recognition with Spain.

Brazilian born Cesar holds Spanish nationality having been associated with the country since moving to Real Valladolid as an 18-year old rookie back in the 1996-1997 season.

The former Real Madrid and AC Milan star has resigned himself to defeat in playing for the country of his birth and will follow many present day footballers in commiting his future to another nation - basing his actions on a professional decision.

"I've put out of my mind the chance of playing for Brazil, Now I've got Spanish nationality, I'm more interested in the prospect of playing for Spain." he said

"It's not that I feel any less Brazilian. But I've lived in Spain for a few years now, and I've made my decision purely on a professional basis."

Spain have yet to replace national coach Inaki Saez following their exit from the European Championships but whoever the new boss is he will be given food for thought should Cesar manage to continue his excellent early progress at the Reebok Stadium.
