Julio Could Be Set To Fill The Void

Former Real Madrid defender Julio Cesar was a surprise inclusion during Wednesday nights friendly win against Dundee United and given the performance he put in it was clear to see why Sam Allardyce wanted to keep his identity under wraps.

The eagle eyed fans amongst the crowd recognised the player whom Big Sam simply referred to as Julio or alternatively Julio Cesar Santos Correa to give him his birth name but whatever you choose to call him there's no escaping the fact that he put in a sound performance for the 87 minutes he was on the field.

Cesar spent last season back in Spain beginning a second spell with his first European club Real Valladolid but since those lofty days at Madrid alongside Ivan Campo he has also seen service in Portugal and Austria.

If the Samba star continues in the same form as he did in midweek throughout his trial then this could prove to be the medicine which Sam Allardyce craves for his defensive headache which has seen him potentially lose three centre halfs over the summer in the shape of Emerson Thome, Steve Howey and Danny Livesey as well as losing the experienced Simon Charlton to Norwich City earlier this week but with Radhi Jaidi and the possible deal for Cesar things could be about to look up on the defensive front.

Meanwhile two trialists who featured in the Dundee United game may have to look elsewhere for new clubs after Allardyce was seemingly unimpressed with the displays of Emerson and Jordi Cruyff. Israeli defender Tal Ben Haim could be set for a run out against Radcliffe Boro tommorow after being given international clearance.
