Gary Johnson has ruled himself out of the running to become the new manager of Derby County, thus paving the way for Bolton assistant manager Phil Brown to become the clear favourite for the job.

The Yeovil cheif had been a strong contender to replace George Burley in the Pride Park hot-seat following his promotion exploits with the Glovers last season. However, the former Latvia coach has now decided to stay put at Huish Park for the time being.

"After a lot of thought and deliberation, I have decided not to take the Derby situation further,"

"I felt the decision needed to be taken now to alleviate further disruption to pre-season training"
