Bolton Wanderers have confirmed that Jamaican international goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts has not joined the club on trial but have said that they do have an interest in the player and are monitoring his progress.

The 26-year old is currently training with Rushden & Diamonds where his international team mate Ornandi Lowe plys his trade but the Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce is monitoring the players progress during his time with Brian Talbot's side. The player who plays for Village United in his native Jamaica previously saw a move to Leyton Orient rejected due to work permit problems.

Ricketts, who stands at 6ft 4" tall could be the next in a long line of links between Bolton and the Reggae Boyz should a move to the Reebok Stadium materialise. Jamaican internationals Ricardo Gardner and Jermaine Johnson are currently on the Wanderers books whilst Jamaican coach Carl Brown has also spent time at the Reebok Stadium on the coaching staff.

Bolton manager Allardyce had expressed an interest to take the player on trial but was told he would be spending some time with Rushden, but it is expected a trial will materialise in the future.

"We saw him in the game with Brazil and made contact. We wanted him on trial then, but were told he was going to Rushden. I am going to speak to Brian Talbot to see what the situation is with them, so we will see" Allardyce said

Ricketts himself spoke of the interest by the Wanderers to SKY Sports fuelling speculation that a trial was imminent.

"I am looking forward to it, it should be fun, I have not had a chance to speak to Jermaine or Ricardo about it, I just want to get up there. I am feeling good and am confident in my own ability to do well. I hope I can do myself justice when I get there." Ricketts said
