The Clarets' hopes of a top-six finish were finally ended on Saturday by a 1-0 defeat to Leeds on Elland Road.
Eddie Howe's men crossed the Pennines on the back of a four-match unbeaten run but barely tested Leeds goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel as their own play-off hopes ended with a whimper.
"We never produced when we needed to, so we have to go away and look what we have to do next season," said Iwelumo.
"It's a hard one to take as we've been there or thereabouts all season and it's finished for us now."
