He told BBC Radio Manchester: "The manager has given me confidence in my own ability and it's nice to be able to express that on the field.

"I'm enjoying my football and that's when you find your best form."

The Aberdeen-born midfielder joined the club from Houston Dynamos in Major League Soccer and recently signed a contract extension at the Reebok Stadium until 2013.

Holden initially joined the Wanderers on a short-term deal but signed a longer contract after impressing on trial but his first season was cut short after he broke his leg playing for the USA.

"With the team we have here, and the work ethic for each other, it allows you to get on the ball and play a bit," he added.

"I think we've got a good flow throughout the team and if we keep playing the way we are it could be a good season for Bolton Wanderers.

"As long as the team's winning and I'm putting in good performances life can't be much better."
