Spanish legend Fernando Hierro has said that he hopes to follow in the footsteps of fellow countryman Ivan Campo in becoming a fans favourite at Bolton Wanderers.

The 36-year old former Real Madrid star has been impressed at the way Campo is being received amongst the Bolton public and has stated that he would like to follow suit in the future.

"It was great to see just how much of an impression Ivan has made here. If I can achieve something similar I will have done very well." he said

Hierro made his Bolton bow as a late substitute during Sunday's friendly defeat with Inter Milan and impressed for the short time that he was on the field. The veteran has begun life in Lancashire in midfield but is equally at home in defence and he says he is keen to make the most of his opportunity in the English Premiership.

"It was always a great ambition of mine to play in England and now I have been given the chance I want to make the most of it."
