Former Scotland captain Colin Hendry is a surprise contender to take over as manager of Third Division Scunthorpe United following the departure of Brian Laws last month.

The Scotsman wants to return to the game after a short break following an illness to his wife Denise and a move to the Iron either in a managerial or coaching capacity could prove to be the ideal opportunity.

Hendry 38, retired from playing last summer after a long and distinguished career which saw him earn 51 caps with Scotland and make over 600 appearances for the likes of Dundee, Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City, Glasgow Rangers, Coventry City, Bolton Wanderers, Preston North End and Blackpool.
