The new manager at the Sky Blues - who are just four points above the Championship danger zone - hopes to persuade Helguson to join on loan until the end of the season.
Coleman signed Helguson when manager at Fulham and clearly likes the player, although any deal being done before the end of the season seems very unlikely.
Gary Megson, who is already short on strikers, has confirmed no-one will be leaving until the summer.
