Hammers linked with loan swoop for Charlton

Bolton Wanderers defender Simon Charlton has been linked with a surprise switch to West Ham United, with the Hammers reportedly keen to take the veteran on a short term loan.

The 32-year old has only recently forced his way back into first team contention at the Reebok Stadium following a knee operation over the summer and it is thought that Hammers Caretaker boss Trevor Brooking is keen to take the former Huddersfield Town, Southampton and Birmingham City left back to add to his depleted ranks.

However Bolton themselves are short on numbers and they see Charlton, who was named Player of the Year in 2002 as an integral part of their first team squad despite him losing his place to Ricardo Gardner at left back towards the end of last season. The Wanderers will need dependable and hard working players such as "Charlie" in the coming months so i doubt this latest piece of speculation will have much validity
