Bolton Wanderers legend and former Iceland captain Gudni Bergsson has tipped the club off about an Icelandic prospect who will undergo a trial at the Reebok Stadium once the Icelandic season draws to a close.

Veigar Pall Gunnarsson, an Icelandic international striker who has hit seven goals in twelve games for his club KR Reykjavik will link up with Bolton later next month to undergo a trial period in the hope of earning a contract in England and former Bolton captain Bergsson and KR Secretary Sigurdur Helgason have confirmed the player is on his way to the club.

"We understand that Gunnarsson will be travelling to Bolton for a trial" Helgason said

"I think at this moment he is the best player in Iceland and he is out of contract with us this autumn so there is nothing we can do about him going there. He is good enough to earn a contract in England" he added

Bergsson played an instrumental part in helping Gunnarsson get a trial with his former club and beleives the player will be a success.

"It is right, Ive been helping Veigar go to Bolton" said the Wanderers legend who is doing some part time scouting for the club in Scandanavia.

"I found it interesting for both Veigar and for Bolton for him to go there and show what he can do and earn a possible contract" he added

The former Spurs player also admitted he tried to get the player on trial with Bolton before but club commitments with KR meant that it could not be arranged.

"There was just no time before because of the Icelandic league" he confirmed

"Hopefully he will do good and show what he can do, it will be good to have an Icelandic player playing for Bolton again"
