England Assistant Manager Tord Grip has hailed Bolton Wanderers midfielder Kevin Nolan and says that the likeable Liverpudlian could be a key figure in England squad's of the future.

Nolan 21, hit his tenth goal in all competitions when he scored the winner during last Saturday's 2-1 triumph against Charlton Athletic at The Valley and Grip says that the form of the Bolton top scorer has not gone unnoticed.

"I've seen Kevin Nolan a few times and he is clearly a good footballer" Grip told the FA website

"He had good attributes as an offensive midfielder and has scored quite a few goals, some cracking ones even."

However despite the players recent good form Grip was quick to point out that competition for midfield places in the England team was rife but Nolan would eventually get a chance in the future should he continue in the form which has seen him eclipse his best ever goals tally for a season.

"What we must say about midfielder's though is that there is tough competition there. To get into the team you need to get ahead of people like David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Scott Parker"

"You also have players such as Jermaine Jenas, Nicky Butt, Keiron Dyer, Owen Hargreaves and Joe Cole too. It is a challenge for the young players coming through but in three or four years perhaps after the 2006 World Cup, we might be looking at a whole new generation of England players coming through"
